About Us

Dr. Maria Segura

I grew up in a farm where along the years we had many pets that were part of my family specially my dogs, cats and horses. I am the second generation of Veterinarians in my family, I still remember helping my dad to carry his drug box when I was a little girl. My love for animal has been the engine to pursuit my dream of helping them. I graduated as a Veterinarian in Mexico in 2000 and two years later I moved to New Zealand where I had to sit my Veterinarian Exams to practice my profession with dogs, cats and horses over there. In 2012, already married to a Banker and with one little one moved to Canada where once again I sat my veterinarian exams and became a veterinarian certified by the CVMA (Canadian Veterinary Medical Association). Once accredited in Canada I’ve been practicing at small animal clinics along the years, I also had the opportunity to work as an official vet at the Ajax Downs Racetrack for a few years while living in Whitby. In 2014 I started my own mobile practice focusing mainly on palliative care and euthanasia at home. In 2015 I was offered the position as a Medical Director of the HSDR (Human Society of Durham Region) where I practiced for almost 4 years. During that time, I had the opportunity to help many pets that the owners could not take care and the shelter would give them a second chance. It was one of the most rewarding jobs I have had in my life! In 2020 we moved the whole family to the North Dundas Region where finally we found a place to have my horse (Romeo), two dogs (Bruno and Tango) and let’s see how many more. In this year I also resumed my work with small and large animals also collaborating with different practices around this area as well as my mobile practice doing palliative care and providing end of life services. On my “spare” time I also teach my kids to ride a horse and spend time around the farm.
