Palliative care provides those with a serious or chronic illness – from the time of diagnosis throughout the course of treatment – care that optimizes quality of life by anticipating, preventing, and managing suffering.
Starting palliative care early in the disease or even when you notice they start to slow down can improve their life and live better and more comfortable their last moments.
Palliative provides the animal’s family precious quality time that helps the family cope with the approaching death of their beloved companion.
Comprehensive Palliative Consult
Our appointment begins with a discussion about what is happening. We listen.
The goal of this consult is to assess how can we help you and your pet. It’s important to know if your pet has been diagnosed previously or we are starting from scratch.
We recommend performing a thorough physical exam that will give us more information about your pet’s condition. Will talk about how things have been changing in your pets life.
Understanding how far you want to go and which diagnostic test and procedures you are prepared to do or not are respected.
Based on this information will plan which the main result is going to be to keep your dog comfortable and without suffering. Will walk this journey together and create a daily plan and a crisis plan.
We provide follow up telemedicine consults.
We give you information and tools to help you with decision making and planning.
You have access to consult the veterinarian by e mail and maintain a one-on-one relationship.
In my experience once we create a scenario and a plan of how things will happen on the final day then the steps clear and the stress of the unknown decreases, so then you could focus on your pet and enjoy every day at a time.
