What is telemedicine and how it works?
COVID 19 arrives to our life to change many things, one of them is the way we provide Veterinary consultation (advice, diagnosis, treatment) using telecommunication tools (telephone or video call) between a veterinarian and an animal owner. This virtual visit does not replace current veterinary medicine practice but is a complementary tool.
Please be aware that Telemedicine is not for every concern or situation. A cat that has been hit by a car or has a large bleeding wound, needs to be seen in-person and hospitalized for diagnostics and proper treatment.
Several general veterinary situations can be addressed via telemedicine, in example: Chronic recurrent issues, such as allergies, behavior problems or palliative care treatment can also be attended through telemedicine also minor concerns, such as a recent (sudden) diarrhea. Although telemedicine does not provide the opportunity for a detailed medical workup, many common conditions can be treated symptomatically (treatment recommendations based only on the pet’s symptoms and clinical signs) through telemedicine.
What if my pet’s problem cannot be addressed via telemedicine?
Based on the telemedicine appointment or in your answers provided in your questionnaire Dr. Maria may determine, that your pet requires in-person care because she requires bloodwork, radiographs, ultrasound or other diagnostic tests from your pet.
Dr. Maria can also help you determine when your pet should be seen and may be able to give you an idea of what to expect during the in-person veterinary visit.
